Sheryl was born in Little Rock, Arkansas but moved to Louisiana in 1976 with her family when her father was transferred with the U.S. Air Force. She graduated from Lake Charles High School and chose a career in law enforcement. She attended the police academy in Chennault, Louisiana and has served with the Lake Charles City Police and then the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office since 2002. Sheryl barely survived an encounter with medical malpractice when she was misdiagnosed with a life threatening operative injury in a local hospital. She successfully asserted a medical malpractice claim for her injury and as a result of her experience, she is an advocate for medical malpractice reform in Louisiana.
